Northern Ireland 1985
In 1985 was co-authoring a book with Steve Bell the cartoonist. It was called Waiting for the Upturn and would be published by Methuen in 1986. The satirical theme was of the UK’s industrial decline and efforts to revive it. We decided to take photographs – mostly by me – and then for Steve to sketch scenes and characters over them. To shoot the photographs we travelled around the UK and spent one intense day in Northern Ireland in Carrickfergus, Bangor, Donaghadee, Greyabbey, Newtownards and Belfast. And yes to our shame we pretended Scrabo Tower was in Scotland…
